| i will chime in on this, since i am on a budget and don't own a "uber looper". -i got lots of mileage out of my old digitech rp100 w/ 2 sec of delay-i would create my whacky digital glitches and usually sample it to my dod d12 (6 sec of sample), for fun craziness. both of those are gone for me now, but 2 sec was what i usually played w/ on the rp100 (for many yrs!). i sold my rp100-for like 25$ a few yrs ago. i think i saw dod d12s selling for 85$ a while back, or in that range. -i use my new digitech rp150 w/ 5 sec of delay a lot. it was 99$, i know they have a new one coming out w/ a 20sec sampler in it. don't know release date. -the zoom g2-has 5 sec of delay, but you can't modulate it like the rp150 does, if you try to change the time, it resets. -i have played around w/ digitech digidelay, i sold mine for 50$ a few weeks back, it has 4sec, it's a great tool for starting (new they are 100$) -and i am very happy w/ the new boss dd7-it has 6 sec of delay and s-o-s loops for 20 (it's 180$ new). -and i got my old 5 min rec time boss rc20 for 150$ a yr ago. it's a great tool. -and for a while i was even using my old tascam 4 track (i got it free from my friend who is a professional musician, cost me a 100$ to get it up and running, but back in '00 couldn't get a recording device for 100$, so i thought it was worth it) and using 20 sec loop tapes (they are message tapes for old phone message devices), i usually was feeding one of my delays into it, but i got some great results w/ it, and i was even down to just 2 tracks (2 were sort of not working great), please note that about 2 yrs ago when i was in radio shack, i saw they had the loop tapes on clearance, so i bought a bunch, and i haven't seen them any more when i've been in radio shacks as of late. technology-out w/ old, in w/ new. so don't know how available they are anymore... -well, i think my point is, you don't have to buy some $1000 super-gizmotron device to start exploring. i have bought many things used on internet to try out (b/c in my area most places don't have a lot of sound tools to try out). it's hit and miss sometimes, but if i don't like something, i just resell it, move on.i take the loss as a "renting charge" and i learned something. good luck to those looking.... s---- www.myspace.com/scotthansen http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=235503632389016121 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5791548553161416906&hl=en |
