Re: MASTER LIST of Least Costly Live Looping Solutions
I've stayed out of this one, largely because of outside time constraints, but it's still Sunday morning and I've had my coffee , so ...
I'd like to add my vote for the following:
1. Lexicon Vortex.
This is the one that got me involve to begin with (THANKS, Andy Butler!). So much so that I own four of them. But that is with a very good reason: It is out of production and it doesn't hurt to have a backup option. I view of Stefan's request, the going price on Ebay is between $150-$250 ... some guy has had one on there for months now, trying to sell it for $350, while a number of ones for less have sold quickly. If you get one, get two sets of pedals, along with an expression pedal and you will have a fun little tool. BE sure and read Andy Butler's comments on the Vortex as they do expelain how to use it as a honest to goodness looper. If you don get a Vortex, I recommend checking the power supply and if it isn't functioning at 100%, replace it with a brand new one from Harmon Kardon ... it's worth the premium to have the right one, and they aren't hideously expensive in the US (can't say for outside of here, sorry).
2. The Roland DD-20 has already been mentioned and I wholeheartedly agree ... I use two of them in series. I work mainly with the "Delay" side of them, using the maximum 23 second delay most of the time and vary the Feedback and E.Level settings. What's fun is to set them at different delay times (say, one at 23" and the other 14.5") and let the two units battle it out with the same phrase ... these are somewhat underated units and they DO have some creative depth to them that will make you smile.
...and we ARE supposed to be having fun while we do this, right?
Best,
Dennis

I purposefully didn't included pedals that are no longer in production
(but we could with their salient going prices-anyone feel like doing that research?)
but I did include used laptop, reel to reel and cassette solutions.
I would purposely include out of production gear, and would include
prices someone bought it used (including the year). For newcomers the
list price does give an indication how much it could cost on ebay or the
flee market...
