Re: Matt's doubts about drum and bass

No.. but you ARE right of course... alot of Jungle IS CRAP!!! AND there is alot of jungle... sorry, you calling it Drum and Bass... I still call it Jungle usually, I know te difference, but I dont think about it.. I think for me it not been about whether individual musicians tracks are better of different from each others.. for me theres just been Jungle in my life for 15 years (the documentary says 10, but I KNOW what I was listening to in these grimy clubs in '89 90.. and that WAS jungle, or some kinda pre-cursor to it...)

There has been no evolution per se, you are right... theres been a rise, a fall, a renaming (J becomes D&B), a rise again, a fall, a reappropriation ( by so called IDM artists, Aphex and Autecre to name but...) a commercialisation (anyone hear the AWFUL Bowie album, shame on him) a fall, and then now a bit of a rise again (maybe beat-boxing has someting to do with this, or Dubstep, Grime scene.

To say Jungle has had no evolution is true, Jungle is a sound, a way of using the top and bottom of the freq spec (not much mid in Jungle) a mix between super fast sped up drums and slow low end dubby bass.. that certainly has been used abused re-used and re-abused, to an extent that I find very interesting...

At first I was like:
>>I'm dumbfounded by
>> what it reveals about Drum n Bass music. Can any DnB fans help me out?
>> How could an entire genre of musicians use the exact same drum loop as
>> the central focus of so many of their songs - for like 15 years?

Them Marc Francombe was all:
> Well thats an interesting question, and I wonder whether you thought it up
> before or AFTER you heard this documentary?
