RE: Any experienced Ableton users able to give me a hand?

Very interesting discussion. The MIDI message triggering a batch of other MIDI messages thing is something I’ve been doing in Bidule, where it is very easy to do. I call this the nuclear reaction strategy.

I had saved Zoe’s post about how she uses Live clips to trigger a batch of MIDI messages to navigate her set and just read it again this week as I am about to dive into learning Live. Mech, your tips are extremely timely for me.

One thing I’ve found, related to something Zoe said about here Repeaters, is that there is usually a choke point for MIDI messages. In Bidule, feeding Mobius a stream of guitar signal, effected guitar signal, soft synths, and output from a chain of VSTs processing the guitar and soft synths, all while Mobius is playing back loops, I have time and again discovered that when I get carried away with a lot of quick commands to Mobius, the soft synths, and the VSTs … crash. I take away the lesson that one does not get carried away.

But the “superhuman MIDI firing” you’re talking about suggest Live may be better at handling this intense MIDI stream. It will take awhile, but I intend to explore this.

now that's sparked my interest....i'd like ot be able to send one pc message from my footcontroller and have a midi clip send a bunch of commands to the mixer to change the "send" values...and perhaps send some pc messages to those plugins that can deal with them to change patches

unfortunately, i have absolutely no idea how to do it!

just looked at the manual and figured out how to create a new midi clip - looked at it's clip view and i see you can select "mixer" for the destination of the midi. but what do you draw in the big panel on the right?

sorry mate, i've a livedunce!

When you say your sending a parallel message to turn off effects would both be done with a midi clip?

Conceivably, you could use your FCB only to send messages to activate MIDI clips.  Those clips would then act as 'little helpers' and fire off all the other commands you might need.
