I think it is one of the most obvious compositional devices that, IMHO, can be employed in live looping performances, and not many seem to do it! I find that very odd. King Crimson are great practioners of polyrhythms and polymeters also. "Electric Counterpoint" by Reich is one of my favourite pieces by him. Maybe that's a cliche piece for a guitarist to like, but I don't care. :) It's great. And it's Pat Metheny. The different sonorities that can be achieved with this technique are amazing.
