Hey Ted, I just made the leap myself, from Logic 6 to 8. A client of mine is working on a project in Logic 8 Express, and I'll be mixing it, so it seems like it's time for the upgrade. I don't have a lot of experience with Logic 8 yet, but have helped set up a few clients computers, and I have to say that with 8, Logic is as user-friendly as it ever has been. Logic has a reputation for being deep and inscrutable, but Apple's influence is finally starting to show. I'm sure you'll find your own share of headaches getting used to it, but just be glad you didn't start w/Logic 5 :-) I was going to wait for 9 and budget for a new computer in the fall, but this job came up so I'm going for it now. Will have to do an OS update as well, so I am planning on a week of computer hell to get everything working together again.
