Hi Simeon,
You can pick up a secondhand MC500 off ebay for peanuts. It will certainly deal with all the commans you want and is built for live use. It may be too big though..

don't drum machines only output midi notes? i've not heard of midi import, but that wold be useful as i could write the sequences in Logic and then import them into the drum machine - is that how it would work?
