I agree, that's why I bought the midi controllers.

Well, it made me nervous too in the past. But you need discipline and
make sure you test out everything well. For example, I'm practising a
lot and leave my Mac running for hours and hours just to make sure the
looping setup is working well. So that's my definition of "stage
proof". On the other hand, I have spent lot's of time on my hardware
loopers as well and although setting up a hardware system is easier
than software, I had to solve many issues before I had a more or less
working system. Noise, clicks, midi problems, bugs, failing
hardware...you name it!
