Yeah.  I use an Epson R800.  Works great.  Don't make 'em anymore.  Uses lots of ink and ink is expensive, although you can get generic for much less.  Generic is good if you're printing a lot... but I think it tends to dry in its casing quicker than Epson brand.

Use Taiyo Yuden CDs.  The rest are fairly junky.  A good place to get Taiyo Yuden in the US is Media Supply:

you can get either white, as these are, or printable silver.  Taiyo Yuden SOUNDS better, better stereo image etc.

Always master to gold Mitsui CDRs:

The best!  Plus, they last 100-300 years... handy if you happen to be immortal. OR VERY young.

Copy to duplicator HD from gold CD.

Bought my CD duplicator at Diskmakers.  Still working after tons of CDs.

I've used an Epson all-in-one printer to do CDs; worked great, looked great, and I actually got a couple of hundred disks from the ink that came with the printer. I did optimize my graphic so it was ink-efficient, i.e., about 50% white space and not a lot of dark saturated colors, but I was pleased with how may disks I got.
I notice that the model I used (RX580) is no longer available, but my experience with Epsons has been that they generally get better and cheaper as they evolve.

My class is producing an album and we want to print a nice graphic design directly to disc. We were considering purchasing our own low end cd printer. I was wondering if anyone has a home one that they recommend (on the cheaper side).
