Novation Launchpad, controller of the gods?

What I don't get about this thing:
In those screenshots, they use an 8x8 matrix to control e.g. levels
for eight tracks. Does that mean that your volume levels are quantized
to eight discrete values? And I remember people complaining that 128
wasn't enough...
