I don't think it's accurate to say guitar synths are over. For instance, Godin produces guitars with built in synth access, one of which I have & got specifically because it does include this feature. The other VG gear is as I understand the concept, synthesized guitar played by a guitar.......which would still be a guitar synth.........

You mentioned that you had trouble playing bass lines with a guitar synth because of poor tracking. I've only noticed this when trying to play lines that are very busy, although with my EHX HOG it tracks even better than my GR-30. The tracking issue is a problem but I have a feeling that as time goes on that will be a problem that will be resolved to most people's satisfaction. I remember when tracking was a problem on normal synths ( you know, the ones with a keyboard attached......anyone remember those? ) but it really isn't a huge issue any longer or at least isn't as far as I know.

Somehow i had the feeling that guitar synths were over with,since the coming out of the VG units and the line6 Variax concept,besides i havent come across many people doing interesting things with guitar synths
