I use a Smashup also but only on the mild optical
setting as a volume control after the Bitrman which has very intense
output!
I also use a BBE Optostomp at the beginning of my
chain. Just a tad to even out my horrible picking abilities.:)

I've got a ModFX Smashup that I use. Generally I
only use it for heavy settings where it seriously alters the sound... 'cause I
like to alter sound. :)

And at the end of the day, I seem to not use them that much. (Anyone want a
Digitech X-series compressor pedal?)
That said, Rick Walker has in
the past made a point that I need a compressor or limiter when using the
E-bow so that I don't blow away the audience. Instead, I've been turning to
fuzz effects because I generally have one available in my set up, but that
means altering the tone.
I've also tried using the limiter in my TC
M300 on the end of the signal chain as basically a global limiter, but I
haven't tweaked or experimented with it as much as Per has. Perhaps I
should. Or perhaps I should look at using something like the RNC if I don't
just succumb and go all computer-based.
