I recently upgraded from my 5-year-old single core desktop to a Dell Studio XPS i7 running Windows 7 64-bit (got a great price from CowBoom on Ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/CowBoom )
I upgraded specifically so I could edit HD video and as you can imagine that was quite a difference from my old computer! It’s been 3 months and I’ve had no regrets or issues.
One thing I don’t think anyone mentioned yet is that in order to fully take advantage of the 64-bit operating system you should run 64-bit applications whenever possible. Most programs will still be 32-bit…and they will still work quite well of course…But applications that are 64-bit are best, and will take full advantage of all your CPU cores and RAM in a 64-bit system.

I am thinking of moving to Windows 7 (64 bit?) from my faithful XP. I only use a computer for recording/post production and for Ninjam/Livestream uses. I am not looping with it and this is a desktop machine. Currently a AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core 6400+. 4 gigs ram although XP 32 bit only "sees" 3.25 gigs.
Are there still issues with drivers etc. Anything to worry about? Also anything on 32 bit vs 64 bit?
