Yes, I would agree that firewire is to prefer. The reason is that this
transmission protocol is independent from system resources. USB, to
compare, is good as long as you do not strain the CPU too hard. As the
CPU gets more busy audio transmission may suffer. If fidelity is
important I would recommend RME's boxes in this mid price range; a
little more expensive but better sounding. They are known by many
users as price worthy, stable and constantly updated with  drivers to
match upgrade changes in computer systems.
