Something that is not mentioned much (or at all anymore) in the major "media" about what WikiLeaks has released is that, so far, NONE of it has truly been any kind of REAL "secrets" or seriously "classified" info that would "threaten" US national security. Even some higher ups in the PENTAGON, including the SECRETARY OF DEFENSE, have SAID that. There is also no way in hell that some lowly PFC would have had access to the codes (or whatever) to the REAL risky and highly classified information since the DoD has it all encrypted and made very secure and some lowly PFC would have no way to access that, or without someone noticing. But, what WAS released was simply the truth about how the US military and many of it's soldiers have acted, (and tried to keep hidden forever) and other dirty little secrets about the military, and also about some of the key players who got the 2 wars started and the REAL reasons for those wars which has ZERO to do with "defending" the USA. The only "defense" is that of the continued profits of the oil companies (including UK and other oil companies) and also about those who make a LOT of money off of being in the "business" of war profiteering. The only real "risk" here is that this now revealed knowledge will maybe make even more people in the Middle East (and elsewhere) pissed off at the USA. But hey, the USA has been doing a "heck of a job" of doing that anyway and for a LONG time now. And still today, so many clueless sheeple in the USA wonder "why do they hate us?". Well, get the fuck OUT of THOSE countries and STOP STEALING THEIR RESOURCES and just maybe some of that hate will start to subside a little bit. Gee...what a "concept", eh?
The same goes for the State Dept cable leaks. Once again, absolutely nothing that was any kind of real "classified" info that would "endanger" the "security" of the USA was released. Those leaks are more of an EMBARRASSMENT than anything else, which the powers that be and the major "media" are falsely trying to make it all out to be. Turning mole hills into ridiculous mountains just to try to save face, along with having a "reason" to shut down an outlet for the truth and facts. Also, I just loved the response from a diplomat of one of the other countries that were ridiculed in some of the State Dept cables. His / her response was with a sort of a chuckle when he / she said (paraphrased) "If you only knew what we say about you". Har! The Europeans generally take things in stride far more than uptight, freaked out Americans do.
p.s. No law has been broken by wikileaks and yet we have semator Lieberman calling for the New York Times to be investigated..
The Lieberwhore will do and say anything to advance his "career" and to try to "legitimize" himself. A self-serving sellout and major prick, if there ever was one. Plus, the NYT and the Washington Times were both given this same treatment back when the Pentagon Papers were released, which BTW was one of the MAIN reasons why support for the Viet Nam war (remember that one? A LOT of vets who got fucked over STILL do) soon turned into just the opposite. But, the US still says it "won" that war. Uh-huh. Riiiiight. More revisionist history. Now gee...imagine that, eh?
The case went all the way to the Supreme Court and the Court decided 6-3 in favor of both newspapers. This *could* turn out the same way, but the difference this time is that the Supreme Court has been stacked with arch conservatives, some of which were put there by (surprise!) scum bag Bush. However, there is still a reasonable chance that the case will still be decided in favor of both newspapers and for the same reasons of the 1971 case which was constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press under the First Amendment and that the NYT etc was in no way involved with or aiding and abetting any "espionage". History is just repeating itself here, but hope still springs eternal....
NYT v/s USA:
But now it also looks like the CIA is about to get involved "to assess the impact of the exposure of thousands of U.S. diplomatic cables and military files by WikiLeaks", which could mean trouble for the defense.
But also, check out the acronym of WHAT the CIA is calling this "task force". Ha! Ya just can't make this stuff up! WTF!
