Hi Everyone, So many people have asked me about the fate of the Y2K Looping Festivals series since I have announced I was retiring from producing it actively. I've given this a lot of very hard thought and did not want my decision to negatively impact the looping community. What I've decided to do is to become a mostly hands off Executive Director for the festival for the next couple of years at least and I've assembled a powerful team of 7 or 8 people who will actively run the festival as a committee. Just because I have so much experience with how to do this extremely inexpensively with maximum press exposure, I will be in an advisory capacity to this soon to be hard working team of people but I intend to be as hands off as possible. They will be doing all the work of this festival and I will not. Sooooo, I'm going to advise this group of people (who I'll name in public as soon as the whole team solidifies) to make the festival considerably smaller in this coming year. I'm going to advise them to not book anyone until probably 3 months before the festival (just to cut down on the constant e-mails that occur if they take bookings for the whole year). People who wish to play the festival from outside of the country and who, therefore, have to know as far in advance as possible to make their bookings will be able to apply before the rest of the call for artists go out. Also, due to failing revenue streams since the Recession hit us, we may not be able to provide transportation for foreign artists to and from the Airports as we have in the past. This still remains to be seen and there will be some official announcement about what we've decided to do some time in the next few months. If we don't then we'll make sure to try and help foreign artists to coordinate arrivals so they can carpool to and from the airports in either rental cars or single trip 'airporters'. There is also a strong possibility that there may only be a festival in Santa Cruz to cut down on all the considerable logistics of having additional concerts in other cities. Again, this will reside with the committee who produces the festival, but the first year of the new regime will probably have to be a lot smaller than in past years. So, that's it and I want to ask people to please respect my need for a vacation and patiently wait until the Y2K11 Committee posts officially for the first time. SO PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ME QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE FESTIVAL! Gosh, was I shouting just then? I was , but I do so in a loving way...........<giggle> I just really need a break after 10 year of hard work but I truly want this festival to go on because it's been so amazing in the past. okee dokee, May 2011 be a fantastic year for this wonderful looping community. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Santa Cruz in the third week of October. love, rick walker
