Ed,

They (along with the Lexicon Jamman) are very sensitive as to their
input settings...they're really kind of eccentric bits of gear...if
there is tone suckage, I'd recommend trying to just play through the
Vortex and tweak it to get it right...

And as everyone else has been saying (and why I still own two of them;
I'm down from four), there is simply nothing out there that does the
same thing, neither hardware nor software (and believe us, it's not
from lack of looking and trying to find a replacement for them!).

Play with it and enjoy it...they really are quite special.
