Another common one is E D A, so the E is both lower and higher (because it 
has two strings an octave apart) than the D.

That said, I'm tuning G D G because I'm mostly droning chords. In that 
case the outer G strings are tuned the same. I started out with the bass G 
string a whole octave lower, but then it becomes very slack and it rattles 
too much.

Do you play looping music with your saz? Link?
