I just found (for the flight to Florence and later back from Rome) that
these numbers depend on the airline. AirBerlin = 8kg hand lugguage 
including
a computer, the luggage can consist of several parts adding up to max 8kg
(guitar + laptop). Easyjet = 1 part only allowed in the hand luggage (=
guitar), so I'll have to stuff my notebook into my suitcase for the flight
back. <sigh>
