. naw . Montreal ex-pat naw (Neil Wiernik) who currently calls
Toronto his home, began composing electronic music in 1988 with
explorations in audio art and experimental music. Neil's interest in
sound and technology has lead him to a continued questioning and
refinement of audio tools and modes of production resulting in
experimentation with altered instruments, modified devices, and
custom software environments. Neil's music could be described as
warm, atmospheric, and cinematic electronic music. The sound
design of naw is firmly grounded in the rich traditions of dub studio
culture but can also be weighed alongside formal contemporary
composition. His music has been described in "The Wire" as
having "...the kind of sharpness and clarity usually lost amid
the murk and decay of clicks and cuts and digital delays." Neil
has released music on various labels including noise factory
and more recently paper+sound under his naw guise. He has
also released music on elevation recordings and soon on BLRr
for his most recent ambient post rock project with aidan baker
as whisper room. Neil is also a founding member of the online
digital arts publication vague terrain. http://www.phoniq.net

. Ortiz . Since his first release in 2003, a dense noise album that only
CBC radio-addicted insomniacs would have heard, Ortiz has continued
whittling away at layers of noise and sound in search of sonic gems.
Crafting richly textured tracks using guitar loops, voices, random
noises, synths, drum machines and whatever happy accidents happen
to make their way into the mix, Ortiz’s music evokes the organic chaos
of modern life. At times peaceful like a cold northern lake at others
screeching like a wonky subway car, Ortiz’s music takes the listener
on a ride through aural landscapes that are strange yet somehow
familiar. Ortiz has been featured in the online culture magazine
Vague Terrain and has released music on Pawn Shop Records
and ping things in addition to a number of self-released titles.

. GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS . Don't blink or you'll miss the chaos.
For your eyeballs, Stephen Lindsey and Eric Siegerman are back
to mesmerize us with their wildly improvised analog projections
of evolving light paintings. http://www.generalchaosvisuals.ca

. Between Sets CDs - A Produce (various)
Between sets we'll be spinning music by respected ambient artist
Barry Craig (A Produce) who passed away this week. There will be
tracks going back to 1994 and from his latest CD "Intangible" (with
Loren Nerell) released on the Hypnos label only a few months ago.
Here's some remembrances from the ambient music community:

The Sound is Watching You

Deane Hughes and Rik MacLean of SubZeroArts invite you to attend
"The Sound is Watching You", an official project at Scotiabank Nuit
Blanche on October 1st, 2011 at AWOL Gallery in Toronto.

The Sound is Watching You is an interactive bio-sonar experience
in video and surround-sound that feeds on audience participation.
Visitors will enter the installation and their movements will be
transformed using echolocation technology into a blend of light,
video and 3D audio that constantly re-generates, morphs and
immerses the participants. Each visitor becomes an instrument of
light and sound - moving, dancing, and gliding through a space
that they have helped to create. By entering the space, you become
part of the exhibit. You aren't just looking at art in "The Sound is
Watching You", you are the art!

Visit http://www.subzeroarts.com to learn more about "The Sound
is Watching You", and to find out how you can help make it happen!
