In my personal opinion there are two distinct musical experiences. Creating and listening. For me creating must be about a performance of some kind, and therefore composing music purely on a computer, or device with absolutely NO physical interaction, is not good enough for my personal tastes.
However listening us purely about the lovely gorgeous audio caressing my ears. in this latter, it matters not one jot to me if the music was created by a human, a monkey, a computer operated by one of the above, or totally generated by a computer. If it tickles my ears I'm happy!
In the case of the video clip that started this thread, the performance was so obviously created in Final cut Pro or other video editing software, I simply saw it as a music video. This technique is not new, See Coldcut in early 90's.
If however some were fooled into thinking it was some kind of live performance, then it was misrepresentative. To me, one could argue that the documentary style of the production was giving this impression slightly, however the performance itself did not...
musically... ok-ish, but visually much more appealing, without which, I doubt we would be having this fascinating convo. m Sent from my (advertisement removed) |
