daft question about ableton live

ok, i've skimmed the manual, but i don't think my head is in the right 
zone...

is it possible to record the main out mix?

this probably seems daft, but i'm just not getting it...there's lots
of stuff about clips and all that, but i just want to hit record and
be able to retrieve a file of what i'm hearing from the main outs...
