With respect to Charles.

As I understand it, the aggregate driver (and MAC audio in general)
uses Sample Rate conversion to avoid synchronisation problems.

I was told this by a guy who worked on drivers for the devices 
made by a "very large company".
He actually said "for best quality, use a pc".
