Although I tend to use looping more like an instrument (rather than a recorder to overdub and clone yourself) I have been missing to be able to work dynamically with tempo when looping. So that's what I've been doing a lot during the last 1,5 years. Funny that my phase coincide with yours BTW ;-) In the past my reason for looping was to get more contrapunct powers live, the same reason I now like the Stick so much (or any other multitasking-friendly instrument). When I was using only guitar, or later on the flute, the looper made it possible to perform two part stuff by first laying down one part and then play the other part, but with the Stick I simply play both parts at once and more rapidly get to the point. Plus the extra bonus of instant ritartando/accelerando options. My focus of looping has shifted. Now the base is playing instrument and electronics while I use looping here and there to spice it up or like "a soloist in a big band". I'm finding an exciting freedom in this new concept. I agree with Buzzie that playing with other musicians is fun. Makes it much easier to come up with good music compared to solo playing. But hey - you can loop in an ensemble as well!
