feedback control on LP2

Hi Guys,
I have only an Ernie Ball Volume pedal and not a real expression pedal.  
But if I even plug a jack into the feedback slot everything stops.  The 
LP2 stops playingback and no sound is output-ed whatsoever.
Is this normal?
