So you can use a single III in a stereo setting because it records in true stereo (unlike some of those pedals from large, impersonal, foreign manufacturers). While there is currently no ability to pan loops once recorded, the following setup allows loop placement in the stereo field.
instrument > mono effects > pan pedal >> III >> 2 amps or 2 PA channels (stereo PA of course) > = mono and >> = stereoSome folks are using the bro-sync ability to loop multiple instruments where each has its own III channel, its own PA channel, and unique EQ/pan/effects settings.
instr 1 > III(A) left > PA channel 1 panned 90% left instr 2 > III(A) right > PA channel 2 panned 30% left instr 3 > III(B) left > PA channel 3 panned 30% right instr 4 > III(B) right > PA channel 4 panned 90% right Holler if this needs clarification or other ideas along these lines pop up. I haven't looked on LD in ages, and I did just now because I was wondering if anything out there could supplant my beloved Rang. I've recently gone to a stereo rig, and I'm looking for more control of the soundfield. Lo & behold, I see that Mike has posted new firmware for the Rang. Serendipity? Karma? Luck? So -- here's my question: How does the audio signal path work in bro-sync? Can I assign a Rang to each amp? Or would both Rangs play through both amps? Or....? I was a Rang III early adopter, and I've used it constantly since then -- it's probably the single most used piece of gear I own. Could a second one only be better? Is that possible? With a 1 or 2 beat master (or even a full measure), longer loops can be played such that they are aligned in a variety of ways. I hope that makes sense. I could be wrong about this but I know a lot of the behaviors on the EDP could operate in synchronized mode but did so without forcing one to wait for loop boundaries — unless one wanted to. That was one of my favorite features of the EDP and something I miss on the Rang when working in Sync mode. But it's been a while since I've used my EDPs since I went on an "avoid rackmount hardware" kick a while ago, so I may be misremembering exactly what they allowed and didn't allow. Given that this really has this Rang protocol has the same features as the EDP's original Brother Sync. Good thing in my opinion is that you don't have to decide in advance which player shall take the sync master role and which one shall be the sync slave - like you have to do if going with a MIDI Clock system. ... It's free, of course, and can be easily downloaded, but makes no sense to do so unless you have more than one III. This new software, to be dubbed V3.1 when released, has only one new feature, this "brother sync" concept. You'll need MIDI cables connecting the IIIs. I was testing with 3 Rang(TM) IIIs and had some impressive results: 12 loops could be started and stopped and played together. If you're interested, send me an email and I'll reply with 2 attached files: .mid software file (downloaded to the III with a MIDI file player) and a .doc file describing the software. Thanks
