Find a good used Gen2 or 3 one … you don’t need the 3G/Wireless bit, since you’re talking about using it for gigs.

Even an Apple Store refurb is worth it (especially since it will be fully warranted).

The Gen2/Gen3 will support the latest iOS (iOS7), so you’ll be good for quite a while.
