. 9:00 . WINDERMERE . Michael Thompson, known as DJ Polyphonic,
was a promoter with Soundsphere during the heyday of the rave
era, bringing The Black Dog, Mixmaster Morris and a mini version
of The Orb to Toronto, as well as the Darkwood guerrilla ambient
events in Serena Gundy Park and the infamous Samhain in
Wasteland event, held in an abandoned building on Halloween
1998. Now entirely focused on production, he has chosen the
moniker Windermere for ambient and electronic musics.
. 10:00 . VESPAZIANI/DAVISON . Bob Vespaziani is a freelance
drummer/percussionist, who is very active in both the Blues and
Improvisational music scenes in Canada. Bob's main axe is the
Korg WAVEDRUM which he plays though various electronic effects,
expanding the instrument's potential texturally as well as
rhythmically. William Davison is a multi-disciplinary artist and
electroacoustic improvisor who has been active in Toronto's
underground, experimental, noise, and improvised music
communities for 25 years. He mainly uses homemade instruments,
amplified objects and minimal electronic effects to create his
surprisingly varied and surreal soundscapes.

This 16 minute piece is the result of being locked up in the studio
for a week with the TV stuck on a news channel doing the moving
wallpaper thing looping the renewed ages old battle for Crimea.
Throw in a new sequencer and some synth software to explore
and out channeled something new from the suburban
subterranean studio that URM calls home.
Warning: Tech talk for all you studio, synth and sequencer geeks
out there. This piece was created in Bidule with six iterations of
Tonecarver's MBIRAGEN midi sequencer driving six soft synths
(Aalto, Obxd, Moog Modular V and MonoPoly x 3) with Jamstix
kicking out the drums. Mixed and mastered in Reaper with
Ozone, Alloy and RX.
This is the first in a series of URM studio explorations to be released
to the PiNG LiST in 2014. Get them while you can as each piece will
be replaced with a fresh piece uploaded for the next month's PiNG.
Don't worry if you miss any of them as they will later be collected
together into an LP which will also include 5.1 surround
sound versions.
