Originally I used a looping device in solo performance to make up for things a piano player would do in the left hand for ostinato-type accompaniment. In band settings I usually prefered more textural stuff like the long backwards delay on 'Piratenlied' on 'Tin Drum Stories' album (btl), or the 15 sec. drone/shifting delays on 'Lonely Woman' on 'Suite Noire' (Nabel Rec) w. Gebhard Ullmann (ts) & Marvin Smitty Smith (dr). The advent of Loop IV really boosted my usage of looping in both fields because of it's instant acces to the looped material for manipulation and slicing. A good example of this development is the solo guitar track 'Blinded in Headlights' on the album 'Montauk' (btl) from 2005 - you can find mp3 audio of that and other on my website. Also soon tbr recordings with bay area saxophonist Phillip Greenlief and Berlin based trio 'Grid Mesh' do mirror this work quite well.
