hey all... had the good fortune to attend the 30th anniversary reunion concert by Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Co. up here at Cornell University ... in case you didn't know, they were the first performing ensemble to use synthesisers. Bob Moog was developing his stuff here in Ithaca and they were sort of the beta testers... anyway, truly great concert; performed pieces from the original repetoire as well as pulling a few of David Borden's more recent works... reason this is posted to the digest is because these guys were using loops in what was then very new ways... multi-metered contrapuntal figures repeating at different time lengths... remember this all pre-dated Eno, Bud et all... in the early 70's this music was'nt yet called minimalism... critics referred to it as "synthesizer music", "trance" music or simply boring because "nothing happened".. also an excellent set pf program notes which kinda covered the whole seminal period of pre- 1975... very beautiful AND entertaining... skeebo.
