I own his father: the GL 2.
Same specs.
I have it set up as you described:
3 stereo efx on its (pre fader) aux coming back through 6 channels
bus 1/2 and 3/4 go to the repeater
great sound  and great flexibility.
less headroom than on a mackie, unfortunately, but its filters are 
gorgeous.
no problems after 2 years of use (it was bought 2nd hand).
