Here's my take: If you start moving your foot to press a pedal's button on a beat, you're already too late. If your foot is in motion before the beat and you're aiming to hit the floor beneath the pedal when the beat arrives, your button press will be much more accurate. The drummer must have excellent monitoring of the looping device(s) and be willing to follow it's tempo instead of lead. (The drummer's fills are still required to lead the band through a song's changes. But that's not a tempo issue.)
