I would hazard a guess that thinner strings, with a higher content of upper harmonics might make for a faster attack. Chapman sticks, with much lighter strings than the equivalent bass guitar, tend to have excellent midi response. I've played touchstyle instruments that didn't glitch however I played - very satisfying.
