Luis,
I just went through a similar experience. I played my Chapman Stick 
through a Mesa 
stack with none of my digital processing and loved it.

I'm now exploring analog stomp boxes: current production, current 
production that 
has been modified, vintage, and DIY. They are a little noisy, but the 
technology has 
vastly improved, especially with the modded units and the DIY units.
