Well, I've been doing some research... http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=BS-392 or if you've got a LOT of cash http://www.soundsonline.com/sophtml/details.phtml?sku=EW-163 Seem to be the best comprehensive ethinic collections out there. Nice enough sounding demos but I wish I knew someone who was using them. I like the idea that they're Kompakt instruments so not a lot of work has to go into making each patch. I like being able to select a gamelan patch and woop there it is all nice. I spend far too much time tweaking guitar tone to worry about sample wrangling. Before I go and drop $400 on a sample collection I think I'm just going to hold on to my ROM based E-MU XL-7 with it's World Collection add on... No extra CPU strain and now that I've figured out how to access and change add on ROM card patches from within Digital Performer it's just too easy and there's no latency. A bunch of pretty damn good sounds too and I think the ROM card cost me less than $100. so for now I'm going to abandon my quest for an ethnic sound collection... maybe pick up the Ethno 3 for christmas... we'll see.
