Don't forget to think about software loopers - you can try out different 
ways of looping for not too much cost (assuming you've got a reasonable 
spec computer to start with, of course). Your software experiments can 
point towards one particular piece of hardware or another, or you might 
just decide to stick with the software & a laptop.
