RE: NEW FRISELL RELAEASE "FLORATONE"

I'm with Kris about Frisell. When he went off into Americana he lost an
edge that we don't see too often any more. Still interesting, but in a
world full of shredaholic flurrymonsters I loved that there was a player
who could be blistering and lyrical at the same time. Maybe players can
do that at the level of Frisells's mid to late 80s stuff for only so
long, or maybe they stop wanting to do so. John Abercrombie was, for me,
sort of Frisell's predecessor on this path... not that he does
Americana, but his chamber music, pretty though it is, is a far cry from
Timeless or Lookout Farm.

Great stuff. Am I amaginng things, or is Bill starting to sound more
like
Scofield with his backbeats on this production? (listen to Handjive, A
Go
Go, etc). Floratone and Swamped are my favorites.

...but oh how I long for the old Frisell sound on "Rambler", "Bill
Frisell,
Kermit Driscoll, and Joey Baron - Live", American Blood, Safety in
Numbers",
etc. I've grown weary with the new sound he started with Nashville,
which
now seems to be threaded throughout most of his recent works....it's a
great
sound, no doubt...I just like his more obscure and darker material.

On a more grave note, what is the deal with Kermitt? There is/was a
benefit
concert to raise money for him...to recoup from finance losse, medical
bills
from Lymes disease, etc.

Just released today . . .

Yeah, yeah, I know he doesn't loop all that much any more.

But, his stuff is often stunningly musical.

Check it out:
