Hi Jim,

the Jamman does have an auto start feature where you can arm it, then it starts recording as soon as it gets an input signal.

i got the optional footswitch with it and it helps in this. It will take practice to nail the close of the loop..

The only problem I had with the unit besides no feedback is that you have to stop the jammer and then save the loop before

switching to the next loop for recording. This was the deal breaker for me. I found that the only way to use it live would be to have

pre-recorded loops to start with. Since all I do is improv I quit using it for now.I may use it for bringing found sounds, etc into the mix. For now its packed up and not being used.

If anyone has any work arounds I would love to hear them.

One of the more difficult problems with looping live is getting the loop to start and stop at the right place. Trying to do this raw by pressing the Record switch to start and stop has to be done very carefully to avoid a glitch in the sound if the start, stop, or both aren't aligned to the beat precisely.

 

The Jamman seems to solve half the problem, but not the whole. You can tap a tempo before recording, then press the Record switch one measure before you actually want to record. Recording will then start automatically on the beat after a 1 measure lead-in.
