Re: Electrix Repeater 2.1.04 Software?

hm, that's interesting, i hadn't considered that there would be software developers who hadn't gotten paid. appalling. i thought the electrix story was done, dead, finis. but really, what would i know, because no one ever says anything!

i would just sell the album myself and if that wasn't possible, give it away asap. because if you wait too long, your audience is gone and street cred is worth more than money.

the music analogy doesn't totally work for software though. for one, people might use that software to make a living. leaving your users in the lurch is bad, but they get over it and move on. wooing your users back with new promises, and then leaving them in the lurch again...that is much worse, and might make those normally placid users, er, quite angry.

but ok, good point, i won't be the one to post the upgrade to pirate bay!

My guess is that someone didn't get fully paid for the software development yet, so they don't want to give it away at this time.  It's worth something, and it cost a lot to develop, so just because the first host company went under doesn't mean that the intellectual property holders want to forfeit everything just yet.  Another deal might be in the works, or they might want to retain ownership of concepts therein and utilize them in another project.

Imagine you made an album, and the record company went bankrupt after pressing up a few hundred copies.  Do you post the album on your website for free, or hold on to the masters and see if you can work out another deal to sell it?

but WHY? if they are not even selling it from their website?

if repeater is gone for good the software needs to be open source...so users left in the lurch can mod it.
