Pod crackle

I just got a Line 6 Pod 2.0 for my drum machine rig.

Problem is, it generates some crackling sounds when there are other
electronics in the same chain, specifically the Alesis ModFX units.
Does this happen for anyone else, or am I not supposed to use the POD
with instruments that are not guitars?
