I have a cheap (think it was $15, a few years back) power supply from 
Radio Shack which allows choice of five different voltages, from 7 - 15 
volts if I remember correctly. I found that over-powering an analog 
delay makes it oscillate much easier. I haven't tried it with a 
distortion box, but now I think I need to.
