Re: Sync Vortex to Looperlative Questions
Hang on another minute...
I did not say you could synch from edp to vortex out of the box.. no... BUT... I installed mattias´s mod INTO my Vortex... yes as in INSIDE.. I re-appropriated one of the jack sockets (the one for amp switching) put in 2 switches, one to send thru mattias circuit to the tap tempo lug on the jack plug and one switch to send it to the morph lug on that socket (or is it the same one) so my Vortex has 2 switchs on the front. the cable comes from EDP beat sync jack.
It works perfectly.. i can either sync the echos to the beat or morph to the beat. not both.. for some reason if I flick both switches it cant trigger both functions... But you dont need it.. echos only have to be synced once....
THEN... can it be used with other things... YES!!! I regularly sync my vortex from an analog sequencer, that send out trigger pulses, and I have got it to trigger from a drum machine too, (but if my memory serves me right.. i had to amplify it hugely to get it to work (the multifarious uses of a Big Muff came in handy here)... I think that was a snare sound... but it wast as fun as I had hoped (trying for irregular delays)...

The EDP does send a click, if you decide to listen to it as audio.
but that click is actually a logic trigger.
Because the edp trigger is too short to trigger a Vortex Matthias
worked out the little circuit to lengthen the pulse.

Whether an audio click track passed thro' that circuit would
sync the vortex will only be discovered by trying it.
Possibly if the audio is amplified enough it works ok.
Possibly a kick drum sound would be a good thing to try.

And can other MIDI devices be connected to work in conjunction

Eclipse (rack mounted)?
something... then you could sync the Vortex, using a couple of components... its in the archives.. I use this technique with the EDP)
Even though, as Bob pointed out, you could very quickly and simply record a metronome sound and output it via one of the Aux Outs, here's an additional solution.
Go down to your local pawn shop and blow ~$50 bucks on just about any leftover crap drum machine with MIDI from the '80's. I'd imagine that
