Re: Self-Promotion, Ambient Music and Radio

The more I learn about Topspin, the more I think it's a critical piece of the modern internet puzzle and how to build more "Direct to Fan" relationships (i.e. - get people to come to your concerts / make money with music).

They just did an online class in conjunction with Berkeley Music School that a friend of mine (high end manager) took.  He's raving about it.  Cost a fair chunk, but maybe someone in the group could take it and teach/share info with the rest.

Downloads via bandcamp or itunes.  Both great - create a zip file of your album to send to reviewers and do it like that.

Have you really been able to sell some more CDīs or did it increase your downloads?

Really the best thing to do for this would be to try the route of searching for similar artists on google blogs and contacting the bloggers.  The best way to build up a following on line - its worked for me but its a very slow process.

This is not an easy topic.
The guy from my label Fuego (German Internet label) tells
me to join those relevant news-groups and internet communities. www.ambientmusicblog.com
(hope thatīs the right address...) is one of them.
Maybe it helps to make some of those bloggers interested
in your music. But I donīt have the time to communicate
constantly in the internet. Have to work and make music.
I really hate promoting my own stuff, but in these times
you have to do... (if you wanna get rich and famous).

Hello -

I am trying to promote a new "ambient" CD I've just released.  And of course it's a struggle to find suitable radio stations to send promo copies.

With readers from all around the world, I was wondering if I could tap into the collective knowledge-base of Loopers-Delight.

Do you have suggestions as to suitable radio stations / DJ's (online or broadcast) who welcome and play Ambient music?  Example of the music can be heard here: http://www.myspace.com/undomusic - in particular the tracks "9.9.99" and "Home".   My ultimate goal is to help drive on-line sales from suitable exposure.

Thank you in advance for your help!  I very much appreciate it!

Kind regards,

David
