Have you considered just using midi clips to trigger those scenes and clips you need, strategically placed in the timeline or triggered from session view a la Kid Beyond? I took a look at his midi clips inside his files to find unbelievable amounts of automation there which renders it totally unnecessary for him to look at or touch his laptop.
