Re: Was Walker Bros Elegies now Ebow and technique

Yeah, I was gonna chime in with that as well, but since I agreed with Matt's original point it was just a technicality. But yes, Fripp himself has stated that although he does own an eBow that was given to him when he lived in NYC by Chris Stein (of Blondie) he's only ever used it a few times and has never used it on a recording or in live performance. He attributes that specific sound that everyone equates with the eBow (the "Heroes" tone) to "simply a Les Paul, Marshall cabinet and a way of working."

I had read that somewhere, but as Per said it was really the interaction between the "air from the
speaker transmitting the vibration back into the guitar". He also in that interview talked about a good tube amp needed for that, but that he was using a Roland JC 120 by then so go figure, lol

Think we should go off topic with this thread if it goes much longer? :)

I'm wiht you pon this Jeff. I can't pretend I don't love the sound of drones, loops and Ebows as well as filter sweeps, sequencers and hand drums.
It's me dharma nature man!

Peace

ps I think you're right about Frip too - 2 fuzz boxes and you're away.. I personally don't like the lack of dynamics in the 2 fuzz effect. Ebows are much more interesting...
