Thanks for all of the input.

I the only problem with LapLooping is the computer going down. I'll be  
fine. I'll just go back to doing what I've been doing all these years-- 
playing the guitar and singing...or going to the bar and drinking.  
I've got lots of experience with both of those.

I guess my main concern was whether programs like Ableton allowed you  
to focus on the songs and grooves without the computer being a main  
fixture on the stage. I don't like the is-this-guy-playing-mp3s-and- 
just-checking-his-mail-or-what kind of gigs...
