We are, of course, part of the planet. I reckon it's our inability to understand that point that causes a lack of respect for the whole of life.
Most of the cultures that understood it have been ruined/wiped out by the onslaught of colonialism.

Well there's the problem right there.... Good point... Cos of this
stupid belief man has successfully ruined the planet... If only more
people believed that the planet created us....
