That was informative, thanks for the research.For what it's worth, I'm doing a television taping of my Dayglo Orange Plastic show this coming weekend
(three studio cameras and two hand held HD cameras)In that show there will be three sources of visuals all related to live looping:
1) Tim Thompson will using his Loopy Cam which is a real time Video Looping Camera that allows for very sophisticated real time control of up to 8 video loops that the operator is in control of creating. Regrettably, it does not have real time synchronization, but anyone familiar with live looping can run it and it looks amazing (ask the people who saw it
projected at the last looping festival2) David Tristram will be use his innovative Real Time Graphics Looping software (lol, he refuses to name it) that he used two nights ago in my 'warmup' performance. It is really beautiful and it is so stark looking that it looks fantastic projected ONTO a performer. I did a piece blowing bubbles and he immediately started using a plethora of self create small circles that match the performance perfectly and then used me as the screen......very cool. I'll post a couple of examples of that
at youtube in the next couple of days and let you all know about it.3) I'll be shooting my own videos that I've created (shown first, for those who saw it, at the 1st Rome Live Looping Festival) which were created in Sony Vegas which treats video exactly as Sony Acid does...........with all of the stretching algorithms
and ability to syncrhonize.4) Unfortunately, do to logistics, I won't be able to show off the Video Projection Tracking system that I invented (developed by Bill Putnam and programmed by Phoenix Tows) that allows one to project video onto a performer that tracks their movement. It's a very hip system but needs to be used with fairly specific venue requirements (you have to be 17 feet from the projection source so you have to either have a center isle or the ability to project from the roof of a venue)
All three of these systems have the potential to be used by other people. I'd be more than happy to connect anyone to these artists to inquire about that possibility. I don't guarantee it but I think it's a definite possibility. I'm already beginning to use the Loopy Cam with my assistant Maha Taitano running it in my life shows.
***************** *****************I am fascinated by the idea of creating live video looping that can synchronize with current paradigms of live looping audio. There is not currently a solution that does this effectively or the way I think would be coolest to manifest.
Soooo, I am working with Bill Putnam (Universal Audio) and a brilliant young CCRMA grad student, Chris Carlson investigating these possibilities. This will take some time even if we achieve a solution but we're on it.
