As usual, you nitpicked right; I stand corrected and rephrase.

"Every linar system can be seen as a combination of delays, adders and amplifiers, and in case of time-variant systems, control signal sources which can affect the parameters of the delays and amplifiers." (the adders being seen as trivial).

(I once had this discussion with a teacher at university - Prof. Terhard, some of you might be familiar with him, e.g. for the concept of virtual pitch - where I claimed that every time-variant system can be seen as a time-invariant system with additional input ports for the control signals. However, this in generality turns a linear system into a nonlinear one, and the whole discussion moot. Luckily, I discovered that before him ;).
