Phil you rock! thank you muchly! :) Yes, I'd totally love to get up to the bay area soon. It's been too long since I've been there. :) Am not too far away (in Santa Monica) but the vibe up there is unique… Anyway, as far as using looping in a song, I personally prefer looping this way, I really enjoy looping in a more accessible form because I like to move to music and I like people. :) Not to say that anyone else doesn't, of course. ;) I like to use very minimal feedback if anything, and always keep loops evolving. If I'm doing ambient looping I use more feedback but still like to always have evolving loops. Hearing the same thing again and again gets to me unless there's some change happening. I also very much like rhythm in loops or at least layered over ambient loops. There's obviously a time and a place for drones but for me, as a rule of thumb, I like to move to music so I like something with a rhythm. This is one reason I like the granular idea of looping. In Naked Blues I created a loop from lots of little samples, using, I believe it was insert sus, and then sus unrounded multiply to redefine the loop length while layering a rhythmic, deadened, strumming overdub. This way I could quickly create e a lively rhythmic loop on the fly. Forgive me if my EDP terminology is not up to snuff but it's been years since I've not only done that piece but been looping or even playing music in general. So this is something I need to brush back up on. :) I'm doing just that though, so am looking forward to connecting up with others here as well as just getting back out and doing some cool / fun loopage! Anyway, would love to catch up when I'm next in the area! Thanks again and have a great day!!! I've often wondered how EDP techniques could work in a more song-like setting... if you ever wind up playing in SF I'd sure love to hear you play, or even duet a bit :) Phil :) On May 7, 2012, at 10:23 PM, Cara Quinn wrote:
